A reusable bottle can look clean while its lid still needs attention. Make the drinking opening, threads and removable parts part of your routine, rather than only rinsing the main bottle body. Empty the bottle and read the maker’s care instructions. Separate only the parts designed to come off. Do not pry out fixed seals or force a tool into a delicate valve. Use washing-up liquid, water and suitable clean brushes where needed. Include the rim and lid threads, plus a removable straw if the design allows. Different bottle models may need different washing methods. Rinse the body and the small components thoroughly. Check the actual instructions before using a dishwasher. A cap and bottle body can have different requirements, even when they belong to one bottle. Leave the parts separated on a clean drying surface with airflow. Let your brush dry too. Do not immediately close a damp bottle for storage, and inspect the parts before reassembling. Build washing into the end of use, especially after a flavoured drink. Use the manufacturer’s guidance for persistent residue or damaged parts. A clean bottle still needs a safe drinking-water source.
